July 7th, The roof trusses arrive

This was a big day in the building process -- the arrival of the roof trusses. Here they are on the delivery truck. I know how much they loved coming all the way out here on our bad country road.



Now the trusses are being unloaded onto the ground. Note the two workers on our old roof.


This is the crane that was brought in to raise the trusses. It broke down on the way here, but somehow limped on into the yard. I heard it still couldn't be used because an air bag needed to be replaced for the hydraulics to work. They replaced it and it immediately blew out, to the tuner of $500 bucks. I guess they had to get another one.


I gues our workers were able to handle the smaller trusses manually because they installed this odd shaped one over the bathroom.

And this one over the mud room.

July 1st, Sheathing on lower and upper garage walls

Sheathing has been installed on the walls of the garage, upper and lower. Now it looks like a big box. Windows will be cut in later.

June 30th, Upper floor of garage framed in

The upper floor of the garage (pool room) getting framed in.

June 27th, Garage Stairs and sheathing on house walls

Stairs on the west end of the garage going to the upper floor which will be the pool table room.


Looks like the stairway to heaven.


This is the outer wall of the house with the old roof peeking out. It will be covered up by the new roof.

This is me going down the ladder, VERY carefully. It was scary being on that top floor with no walls but fun to see what it was like. I am descendng into the master bath area.

June 24, Living room wall gone

At this stage, both the temporary wall and the old wall are gone. The ceiling and roof are supported by two posts. Not sure what will happen with those in the future. Maybe be covered with something nice looking?

June 20th, Big beam goes up

Today was a short day for the workers, but a hard one. They had to erect this huge beam to hold up the ceiling and roof. We went to town and missed the action, but I'm kind of glad we did. I don't think my nerves could have stood watching them. For this first picture I am standing in the kitchen looking south toward the living room window.



The beam is 25 feet long, 12 inches wide and there are two of the boards put together to make it 4 inches thick. The upright boards you see in the pictures are the temporary wall that will come down once they get a center support post in place under the beam.
